Terms of Service

Effective: 2026-05-02

Plain-language summary. By using Macroline you agree to these terms. Macroline is a macro and calorie tracker — it gives you information based on data sources we believe are accurate, but it is not medical, dietary, or nutritional advice. Pro subscriptions auto-renew until you cancel. You can stop using the Service any time. We can't promise the Service will always be perfect, and our liability is limited.

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Macroline iOS application and the website at macroline.app (together, the "Service"). The Service is operated by Michael Calvert, an individual doing business as Macroline ("we", "us", "our", or "Operator").

By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use Macroline. If you are between 13 and the age of legal majority where you live, you must have a parent or legal guardian's permission to use the Service. By creating an account you represent that you meet these requirements.

2. Your account

3. The Service

Macroline lets you log foods, see daily calorie and macronutrient totals, set goals, and (with a Pro subscription) use AI features to log meals from natural-language descriptions, scan barcodes, and connect to compatible AI assistants via the Model Context Protocol (MCP).

Macroline relies on public food databases (USDA FoodData Central, OpenFoodFacts), official restaurant nutrition pages, manufacturer-published data, and AI-derived estimates. Each food in our database carries a "source tier" indicating where the data came from. We make reasonable efforts to keep this data accurate but do not guarantee it.

4. Important disclaimer — not medical, dietary, or nutritional advice

Macroline is informational only. The calorie counts, macronutrient values, goal recommendations, and AI-generated outputs in the Service are not medical, dietary, nutritional, or fitness advice. Macroline is not a substitute for consultation with a licensed physician, registered dietitian, or other qualified professional.

5. Subscriptions, billing, and refunds

Plans

Macroline offers a free tier with usage limits and a Pro subscription priced at $4.99 per month or $39.99 per year. Current pricing and feature lists are on our pricing page.

Auto-renewal

Subscriptions auto-renew at the end of each billing period unless you cancel before that period ends. You will be charged for the next period using the payment method on file. We may attempt to retry payment if a charge fails.

Cancellation

Refunds

Subscription fees are non-refundable except where required by law. We do not provide partial refunds for unused time within a billing period. iOS refunds are handled by Apple per Apple's refund policy. Web subscription refund requests can be sent to info@macroline.app and will be considered case-by-case.

Price changes

We may change subscription prices. If we do, we'll notify you at least 30 days before the change takes effect. Continued subscription after the change constitutes acceptance of the new price.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

7. Your content

You retain ownership of the diary entries, custom foods, weight logs, and other content you submit to the Service ("Your Content"). You grant us a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, transmit, and process Your Content solely as needed to operate the Service for you.

We may use aggregated, de-identified data derived from Your Content to improve the Service (for example, to identify which foods are missing from our public database). We will not use the content of your meal descriptions or diary entries to train AI models.

If you submit a custom food and choose to make it public, you grant other Macroline users a limited license to use it within the Service.

8. Our intellectual property

The Macroline name, logo, app design, source code (where not open-sourced), database schema, and curated chain-restaurant data are owned by the Operator. Nothing in these Terms grants you any rights in our intellectual property except the limited license to use the Service as intended.

Underlying nutritional data may come from public sources (USDA, OpenFoodFacts, etc.) — those have their own licensing terms; we comply with each source's terms.

9. Third-party services

The Service integrates with third-party services including Stripe (payments), Apple (App Store and in-app purchases), Anthropic (AI processing), Resend (email), and others described in our Privacy Policy. Those services have their own terms and policies; we are not responsible for them.

The Service may also be used in conjunction with third-party AI assistants (such as Claude) via the Model Context Protocol. When you connect such an assistant, you authorize Macroline to share your data with that assistant on your behalf, subject to the scopes you grant.

10. Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Operator disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, and uninterrupted operation. We do not warrant that the Service will be error-free, that defects will be corrected, or that the food data we provide will be accurate or complete.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Operator shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenues, data, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of the Service. The Operator's total cumulative liability for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim or (b) USD $50.00.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, so portions of this section may not apply to you.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Operator from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third party's rights.

13. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time and delete your account by emailing info@macroline.app. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or engage in conduct that we reasonably believe is harmful to the Service or to other users. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including disclaimers, limitations of liability, indemnification, and governing law) will survive.

14. Governing law and dispute resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. The federal and state courts located in Delaware shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service, except that either party may seek injunctive or equitable relief in any court of competent jurisdiction.

Before filing any legal action, you agree to first contact us at info@macroline.app and attempt in good faith to resolve the dispute informally for at least 30 days.

15. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as the Service evolves. The "Effective" date at the top reflects the current version. For material changes, we will give you at least 14 days' notice by email or in-app notice. If you do not agree to a change, your remedy is to stop using the Service before the change takes effect. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
